Help Stop Inhumane Treatment of Pets

Animal welfare legislation is supposed to regulate how pets are treated. Breeders are supposed to take their breeding stock for regular exercise, or they can be shut down. Unfortunately the law has a loophole. This loophole allows breeders to inhumanely treat their "stock" as long as they sell on-line. What can we do? Well, the ASPCA is asking for support for their suggested change to the Animal Welfare Act. But wait, that's not all. There is more you can do too:

  1. Your congressman needs to hear that you don't like animals being mistreated. You will be contacting them with the above link, but contact them again on your own. Make it clear that you don't support mistreatment of anything!
  2. DON'T BUY FROM BREEDERS, ADOPT! I'm sure you have heard on Oprah, the news, whatever that breeders mistreat animals. The facilities are not good. Even if they are forced to treat them a little better, the facilities will still be awful. These breeders will do the least they can in order to maximize their profits. Besides, there are tons of animals in shelters who need homes. Shelter animals are usually given their shots and fixed, which saves you money on the long run. Adopting an animal might save its life.
  3. Pray. Of course prayer is always welcome.

Whale Sharks Caught in BPs Mess

I have not been following the oil spill mess very closely. Mainly because every time I hear about it I get angry. The political bantering back and forth is stupid. I don't care who cleans it up, I don't care who's to blame. I just want it fixed.

Now whale sharks are making their yearly migration from the Yucatan to the Mississippi Delta and are going right through the mess. These guys are highly endangered and this stupid oils spill is going to kill off even more of them. How many other endangered species are being threatened because of this mess. We don't know. Whale sharks don't float, so we will not know how many of them die. How many other critters have died and sunk.

Get it fixed already!

Welcome Obama!

This momentous day shows us that we have come a long way. Just twenty years ago the idea of a non-white president of the United States would have been ridiculous. Eighty years ago blacks were strange fruit, now our new president, a black man, talks of mutual respect in his inaugural address. This speech is on every television in my classroom. It is on across America. It is being watched in Kenya, Indonesia, the entire world watches this event. The world is welcoming the new President of the United States. Let's all welcome him.

Lord, you are wonderful. You are with every one of Your children. You are watching over this new President as You watch over me, typing this prayer. You are watching over the poor, the rich, the poets, the murderers, all of Your children. Thank you Lord.

Please protect this new president. Barack Obama may not deserve Your love any more than I do, but You love us anyway. This is a low point in our time. The economy is in bad condition. Be with Obama as he attempts to mend our economy and bring this country back around to the great country it is. Help him to make the right decisions to guide our country in its position as a world leader. Guide him in his dealings with the foreign powers around the world that require his attention. May he always come to You to help guide his policies and decisions.

Amen.
